There has always been something about the outdoors that grounds me, almost as if life starts to breathe again the moment I’m surrounded by open skies and water.
I’ve noticed that the farther I step away from daily routines, the clearer everything becomes. That feeling is especially strong in places like St. John in the USVI, where nature exists freely and unapologetically.
On these islands, days aren’t rushed. I ease into my mornings, often spending them on pristine beaches where the water effortlessly shifts from turquoise to deep blue. Just offshore, charter boats drift quietly, carrying people who, even if only for a moment, have chosen presence over pressure. In those moments, the noise of everyday corporate life begins to fade.
More importantly, this is where I experience being “topless” in it’s truest form. Not physically, but mentally. Expectations fall away. Titles disappear. Emails stop mattering. In that space, I’m free to simply exist.
Being surrounded by nature naturally slows my thoughts. The rhythm of the waves replaces the constant reminders of what needs to be done next. With that shift, a sense of freedom returns. It becomes clear this mindset isn’t about escaping life, but about remembering who I am underneath everything else.
These moments outdoors aren’t luxuries to me. They’re reminders. And once you feel them, they’re impossible to forget.

Time spent in places like St. John has quietly shaped the way I see life, reminding me that freedom is a mindset first, not a destination.
When expectations fall away and presence takes over, clarity follows. That feeling has stayed with me long after the sand is brushed away and the boat returns to shore. In many ways, it became the foundation for what would eventually grow into No Tops Nation.
